Homecoming

Some works begin with an image that refuses to leave.

Homecoming was inspired by the work of Mihail Zablodski, a contemporary artist from Ukraine. I came across his work online, and one particular composition stayed with me. It wasn’t something I could simply admire and move past. I couldn’t unsee it. The form lodged itself in my mind and kept returning persistently.

That form gave me a sense of calm, the kind that settles in when you arrive somewhere familiar and exhale without realizing you were holding your breath. That feeling became the starting point for Homecoming, both the title and the emotional direction of the work.

From there, I began to ask myself what homecoming actually feels like. Not as a place, but as a state of being. Warmth came first. Honey followed naturally for its color, its weight, its slowness. The bees emerged as guardians rather than symbols, quiet presences that protect without drawing attention. The honeycomb, made from packaging paper, became the structure of home itself.

I hope this work resonates with you as much as it did for me.
